Singapore Management University has modernised its enterprise operations with RISE with SAP, working with implementation partner ABeam Consulting and SAP to establish a connected cloud foundation spanning finance, HR, procurement and travel.
Singapore Management University (SMU) has completed a major enterprise transformation under its SMU2030 Strategic Plan, deploying a suite of SAP cloud solutions with ABeam Consulting serving as implementation partner.
The project was designed to simplify workflows, unify data and improve employee experiences across the university’s administrative and academic functions. Working alongside SMU and SAP, ABeam Consulting brought its enterprise transformation expertise to the implementation, helping establish an integrated platform across finance, human resources, procurement and travel.
The RISE with SAP transformation includes SAP Cloud ERP, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Ariba, SAP Concur, SAP BTP, SAP Integration Suite and a range of identity, development and workplace services.
At the centre is SAP Cloud ERP, supporting finance, grants, treasury and reporting. SAP SuccessFactors provides mobile-enabled employee self-service capabilities, while SAP Ariba has digitised supplier onboarding and procurement workflows. Integration between the platforms is intended to reduce complexity, improve governance and give SMU greater visibility across its operations.
Thomas Mani Padiyara, Principal and Head of Enterprise Transformation, ABeam Consulting Singapore, said: “We are proud to partner with SMU on this significant transformation alongside SAP. By combining SMU’s SMU2030 ambitions with our experience in delivering large-scale enterprise transformations using SAP solutions, we have established an integrated, cloud-based digital foundation that enhances operational efficiency, streamlines processes across finance, HR, procurement and travel, and supports the university’s long-term growth and innovation.”
The implementation went live in January 2026 and has already generated measurable results. SMU reports 83% active SAP SuccessFactors adoption and almost 3,900 workflows triggered.
Procurement has also seen significant activity. More than 10,000 suppliers have been onboarded through self-service registration using SAP Ariba, while 4,700 purchase orders have been synchronised. More than 2,000 suppliers have also been onboarded to SAP Business Network, supporting greater source-to-pay visibility and supplier collaboration.
In finance, more than 3,600 claims were processed through SAP Concur shortly after deployment, alongside 3,700 payments and more than 500 accounts receivable collections within the first month.
SMU CIO Lau Kai Cheong said modernising the university’s core platforms and harmonising processes had enhanced operational efficiency and strengthened decision-making, while providing a scalable foundation for future innovation.
For ABeam Consulting, the project demonstrates the role implementation partners can play in translating broad transformation strategies into integrated enterprise environments. By bringing together multiple SAP technologies and operational functions, the implementation provides SMU with a common digital foundation designed to support further automation, data-informed decision-making and innovation as the university pursues its SMU2030 objectives.
