Veeam floats $1,000 incentive for end-users to activate cloud disaster recovery

Veeam Software announced a new initiative in partnership with Veeam Cloud and Service Provider partners to give away up to $200 million through an exclusive Veeam Free Cloud Services programme. Effective immediately, every customer using Veeam for on-premises backup and recovery is now eligible for up to $1,000 in free cloud backup and Disaster Recovery as a Service or DRaaS from Veeam and its partners.

The new programme provides a simple and cost effective way for customers to try to extend their availability strategy into the cloud.

The free Veeam Cloud Connect service will be delivered to customers by participating Veeam Cloud and Service Provider VCSP partners. By using a VCSP, customers can avoid the cost and complexity of building and maintaining an off-site infrastructure while meeting their business and regulatory requirements for off-site backup and disaster recovery.

Cloud-based disaster recovery, also known as Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service DRaaS, presents a significant opportunity for companies of all sizes to save money on or expand disaster recovery capabilities. DRaaS offers substantially more benefits than traditional disaster recovery strategies, including reduced complexity, quicker recovery configuration and processes, lower costs, reduced capital expenditures and less upfront financial risk and self-service capabilities. This enables the effective governance of data.

DRaaS continues to gain momentum due to more affordable prices and enhanced functionality to meet availability and compliance requirements. Gartner estimates the DRaaS market will nearly triple within the next two years, to a revenue point of $3.4 billion by 2019. This commitment to invest in DRaaS adoption comes as demand of the Veeam Cloud and Service Provider programme from enterprises of all sizes soars in 2017 on top of 79% YoY growth in cloud during 2016.

Cloud backup also has a number of advantages. The 3-2-1 rule states that organisations need to keep three copies of their data, stored on two types of media, with one copy being off site. Getting backups off site can be challenging due to limited bandwidth, exploding data volumes and a lack of resources required to build or maintain a true offsite backup repository. With Veeam Cloud Connect, companies can master the 3-2-1 rule without dumping money and resources into a second site or adding bandwidth.

In addition to helping customers embrace the benfits of DRaaS, the Veeam Free Cloud Services programme is designed to help traditional resellers expand in the midst of a cloud-based services market shift. Veeam is connecting resellers with VCSP partners, helping them establish cloud services businesses that generate growing monthly recurring revenue streams.

This limited time offer is available for all Veeam Availability Suite, Veeam Backup and Replication and Veeam Backup Essentials end-user customers with active Veeam maintenance contracts. The Veeam Free Cloud Services programme will initially launch in North America, with plans to expand into EMEA, and other regions in the next few months.

A testament to Veeam’s strategic commitment to the cloud is its partnership with Microsoft, one of the preeminent public cloud services companies in the world. Through services such as Direct Restore to Microsoft Azure, organisations are able to take on-premises workloads and restore or migrate them to Azure using automated conversion capabilities. This extends current investments in Veeam Availability solutions for users and enables them to fully utilise the power of the cloud.

Continuing to expand its roster of top cloud talent, Veeam has added VMware veteran Danny Allan as Vice President of Cloud Integration and Alliance Strategy. As the CTO of Desktone, which was acquired by VMware, Allan was responsible for developing technical and service delivery strategies for End User Computing cloud services.

Throughout his career, he has partnered extensively with service providers, system integrators and large enterprises on designing, developing and deploying virtual infrastructure solutions. Allan is also the original author and named co-inventor on the patent behind VMware Horizon Air Hybrid Mode and provided the technical strategy behind VMware’s path from traditional VDI software to cloud services.
