The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management and Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, have announced a partnership to build a new technology education module. The two organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the module which is aimed at educating students at Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management on technology and how IT plays an important role in the hospitality industry.

The module will be a pre-requisite for undergraduate students at Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, as part of the programme curriculum. Experts from Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise will teach the students by demonstrating the latest technology innovations in the hospitality sector, discussing trends like the transition to cloud and its relation to business operations, and discover the latest apps which are changing the experience for both hotel guests and employees.

Students on the undergraduate BBA Hons and post-graduate MBA programmes will be exposed to different aspects of hospitality management and have the opportunity to delve into the ever-changing IT environment in a hotel and learn how technology is revolutionising the guest and employee experience.

Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, owned by Jumeirah group, was established to develop the hospitality leaders of the future. There are currently over 300 students learning through internships and building relationships with people in the industry.

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise is helping hotels and properties across the UAE and Middle East to make the shift to digital services. From enriching the guest experience, reducing infrastructure costs and improving hotel operations, its next-generation wired and wireless voice, data and video services help hotels offer a 360-degree personalised guest experience.

As part of the module, students and course professors will use newly-announced Alcatel-Lucent Rainbow, which is an innovative cloud-based relationship management platform. With Rainbow, students and faculty can be more collaborative and productive, with no boundaries. A digital innovation hub being set up at Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management will be equipped with Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise products and solutions where students will experience the latest technologies and gain first-hand knowledge.

Judy Hou, Managing Director, The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, said: “At the academy, our goal is to set up an innovation hub where top technology players and students can interact. Our partnership allows the students to gain knowledge that they will need to work in this market, to maintain the UAE’s position as a global leader in hospitality in the future. Rapid evolutions in technology mean greater guest expectations, and hoteliers in the UAE are increasingly embracing new technologies to adapt to changing customer demands.”

Xavier Mongin, Regional Director, Hospitality, Middle East and SE Africa, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise commented, “Through this partnership, students will learn from experts, who have proven experience implementing Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise technology in local and global markets. The hands-on module will equip students with practical skills that can be applied as they start their careers in hospitality. The partnership offers us the ideal platform to raise awareness of our innovative portfolio to the next-generation of hoteliers, setting the industry standard for digital solutions across the hospitality sector.”
